Dave " Duke " Nicholson`s National Hunt Jockeys XI enjoyed two Benefit matches on the Raunds ground through the good offices of Roger Clarke from Thrapston who played cricket for Raunds and was a friend of the jockeys. He eventually took up as a trainer.
Further reference to both games can be seen on the Club Chronicles Page for 1975 and 1976. I well recall that when the Raunds Chairman, Ron Rooksby greeted their captain "The Duke" on the car park at 10 am on that Sunday morning of the first encounter, his query of `would you like a drink` was answered by `Port & Brandy please`, !!!
