Peter N Wright, our old quickie bowler from the 50`s, 60`s and 7o`s has turned to the craft of wood-turning in his retirement years
and has recently made and presented the following two display trophies for the club shelves. On the left is the " Knocker-Inner " circa 2010, complimented by two of Peters bowling trophy beermugs, two bails, old Father Thyme`s candle stick and a mini can of bat oil. The inspiration for the Ashes Ale Trophy came to him while drinking a bottle of the Marston Beer in the middle of the 2013 Ashes Series in England , where England retained the Ashes with a 3-0 thumping of the Aussies.Extremely great care was necessary to remove the bottle label to stick on the trophy. The ball on top was unwittingly provided by Alwyn York for Peter and is a Kookaburra Ball, which adds an unexpected connection to the England versus Australia theme of the contest. Peter uses the cover name of " Crash the Ash " when making cricket related items because stumps are manufactured from Ashwood and Peters aim when bowling was to crash the ball into the stumps. In one match I played in we rcall how, while bowling from the Carterhill end, one bail from the smashed wicket ended up half way to the hedge !!!
