The 1898 Kettering & District Cricket League Medal
June 2005 - A second medal turns up !
Would you believe it ! Some twenty years ago, exactly when I cannot remember, but I was invited by Jonah Coles who lived at the bottom of Park Road, to view a cricket medal awarded to, I presume, his grandfather on the occasion of the Raunds 1st XI winning their section in their first season after entering the Kettering & District Cricket League in 1898.
I have always felt priviliged at having been invited to see this antique souvenir of the early days of our club but blow me down it has happened again !
Lou Sykes, who used to play for Raunds back in the fifties or sixties recently came into the Pavilion and asked if I would like to look at his grandfather`s old medal. Yes, you are right, it was another 1898 medal awarded 107 years ago, the same as Jonah Cole`s. Lou has given mr permission to take a close-up picture for posterity which I have now completed.
Can anyone cap this ? Make it three ?
